Moving a bootable NVMe SSD from one system to another

Can I move a bootable NVMe SSD from one system to another?

Generally, yes. If you have a Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 installation, the two systems need to have comparable hardware levels (CPU, chipset, and platform manufacturer). To do this, disable secure boot on the current system (if it was enabled), physically move the NVMe SSD into the new system and boot it in your new system. Typically, Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 installation will recognize the new hardware and load/unload any additional drivers as needed and will boot successfully.

Be sure to perform a system level check to ensure the new system is stable.

This is not recommended for Windows 7 installations as it may lead to system boot failure or instability. It is best to follow data migration guideline after a clean OS installation on your new system.
